My name is Conan Hoang-Long Pham. I was born in Hai Phong, Vietnam, but I have lived in Hong Kong for more than 14 years. I am fluent in English, Vietnamese and Cantonese, and I can speak a little Mandarin, French and German. I am currently pursuing a PhD degree in Chemistry in Prof. Dr. Wa-hung Leung’s group at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. My research centers on the study of high-valent lanthanide complexes stabilized by a tripodal oxygen ligand, with emphasis on the synthesis, characterization, and reactivity of tetravalent cerium compounds. Current projects involve: (i) examining the redox reactivity of Ce(IV) alkoxide complexes towards C-H and O-H bonds oxidation; (ii) isolating terminal Ce(IV) carbonate, acetate and related complexes; and (iii) designing and synthesizing high-valent chalcogen complexes stabilized by a tetravalent cerium center. Outside the laboratory, I enjoy playing sports, listening to music, and watching Kurzgesagt, LEMMiNO, Facts in Motion and other awesome YouTube channels.
